J&C Joel manufactured 22 bespoke reefer curtains and a number of drapes for the European leg of Simply Red’s farewell world tour.
The band capped off a 26-year career with a two-year tour. For the European tour dates J&C Joel created a number of eye-catching stage dressings and bespoke silver drapes that were dropped via a kabuki system to open each show.
J&C Joel supplied a selection of cotton casement fabric to St Aidan’s Children’s Centre in Wythenshawe, Manchester.
The cotton casement was supplied in various colours and used to upholster 95 acoustic dampening cushions that are used to improve the acoustics of the former church building.
J&C Joel worked alongside Oxford Sound and Media to install technical apparatus and fabric in South Cheshire College’s state-of-the-art television studio.
J&C Joel supplied a flexible lighting rig, curtain tracks around the perimeter of the studio, as well as premier wool serge curtains and a quantity of chromakey green wool serge specifically developed for use in television and film studios
Royal Shakespeare Theatre, Stratford-upon-Avon, UK
In November 2010 J&C Joel installed curtains and curtain tracks in the newly refurbished Royal Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon.
The velvet velour curtains were hung in the backstage area of the theatre on bespoke curved curtain tracks designed specifically to follow the distinctive shape of the landmark building.
J&C Joel helped to set the scene for the biggest event in the European music calendar by supplying fabrics for the 2010 MTV European Music Awards show.
The ceremony at Madrid’s La Caja Magica was attended by some of the biggest names in the music industry, and J&C Joel were honoured to supply a quantity of sharkstooth gauze which complemented the event’s lighting and added depth to the stage scenery.
In October 2010 J&C Joel installed velvet velour stage curtains, pelmet and a motorised track in the theatre of the prestigious Kingswood School in Bath.
In October 2010 J&C Joel supplied the front of house curtains for the newly opened Waterside Theatre in Aylesbury.
The front of house curtains were made from lustrous crushed velvet in a bespoke apricot-gold, complementing the colour scheme of the theatre’s interior. J&C Joel also produced a white polyester backdrop with a black printed woodland motif inspired by the local Chiltern countryside.
Arthur Smith Hall, Durban University of Technology, Durban, South Africa
J&C Joel Manufactured and installed a complete set of stage and perimeter curtains as well as curtain tracks the Durban University of Technology's Arthur Smith Hall.
A complete set of bespoke Velvet Velour front of house curtains were manufactured and installed along with black Super Wool Serge stage curtains. Near-blackout Dimalan curtains were manufactured and fitted within the windowed alcoves around the hall.
Opened in 1900, the stage in the historic Harrogate Theatre has played host to some of the most famous names in world of theatre and today the venue is as busy as ever.
To help the theatre move with the times J&C Joel installed pilewind winch units, the first motorised flying equipment to be fitted in the venue, and also fully replaced the theatre's hemp rope sets.
J&C Joel provided The Generating Company with a 20m x 13m printed Polyester Trevira backdrop to be deployed using our new Kabuki drop system. The bespoke backdrop was made specifically to float to the stage floor when the Kabuki system was fired at the end of their performance at the Festive Grand theatre in Singapore. The Kabuki system enabled technical staff to control the timing of the drop via their special effects system, ensuring a spectacular finale to the show.
J&C Joel supplied and installed five manually operated pilewind winch units in Liverpool Hope University's Capstone Theatre.
The Capstone Theatre in Liverpool Hope's Cornerstone campus hosts shows from both local and nationally renowned performers and also serves as a teaching theatre to the university's performing arts students.
Manchester Central Convention Centre Exchange Hall, Manchester, UK
J&C Joel manufactured and installed hardwearing perimeter curtains and tracking in the Manchester Central Convention Centre's Exchange Hall.
Walkalong Triple E curtain rails were fitted from which Oxford blue wool serge curtains were hung. The curtain tracks were installed in such a way that sections of the room can be curtained off depending on the requirements of any individual event.
J&C Joel manufactured and installed 20 acoustic wool serge roller banners into Sevenoak's School's main performing arts venue, the Pamoja Hall.
The hall's timber cladding is visually fantastic, but is detrimental to the venue's acoustics. J&C Joel's acoustic banners not only counteract this, but have also been designed to totally match their surroundings.
J&C Joel designed and installed a moving lighting gantry for Middlesbrough College’s Hazel Pearson Theatre.
Suspended at technical gallery level, the gantry spans the width of the auditorium and is able to move from the back of the theatre to the stage and was designed specifically to give theatre staff safe access to lighting bars and rigging.
The red carpet outside London's Royal Opera House wasn't the only flooring to catch the eye at the 2010 BAFTA Film Awards, as J&C Joel supplied black Joelmat gloss stage flooring for the event.
J&C Joel also supplied luxurious silver satin stage curtains for the ceremony, which celebrated the very best in cinema from the previous year and handed out awards to such stars as Colin Firth and Carey Mulligan.
For the opening ceremony of the 2010 winter Olympics, J&C Joel produced an array of dynamic 3 dimensional projection screens from white Ripstop nylon. The mountain measured, 35m x 25m and stood 25m high and was installed on a magnetic kabuki system to produce a dramatic effect when struck. The ‘trees’ stood 35m tall and utilised the same kabuki system.
