Working in conjunction with leading systems design and installation specialists Oxford Sound and Media, J&C Joel manufactured and installed acoustic motorised roller
banners, acoustic curtains and a complete rigging system within the Britten Studio in the renowned Snape Maltings complex in Suffolk.
The integrity of the acoustics within the studio was paramount so in order to reduce sound reverberation within the space, J&C Joel manufactured and installed twelve bonded Wool Serge acoustic motorised roller banners in the ceiling space. The roller banners can be quickly and easily deployed using a handheld remote, meaning that the studio’s acoustics can be altered to suit the wide variety of performances staged at the venue.
Double-sided acoustic curtains were manufactured and hung on the rear wall of the studio, these curtains were hung from a chain track system which is able to show either colour of the curtain. The system also allowed the curtains to be drawn inside the studio’s timber clad back wall and stored when a more reflective acoustic is required.
A complete programmable rigging system was also installed comprising of six variable speed motorised hoists and three manual winch units. These were connected to a series of custom-built lighting bars using suspension cables running through a system of pulleys which were mounted on plates cast within the studio’s pitched roof space.
J&C Joel provided the bespoke lighting bars with integrated cable management systems for the lighting and AV circuits. A system of fireproof cable passes was also integrated into the studio’s walls and ceilings to enable OB hook-ups and connectivity between Snape Maltings’ performance spaces.
