When De La Salle High School in St Helens underwent a multi-million-pound refurbishment J&C Joel was approached to help upgrade the school’s performance space.
De La Salle High School is a Voluntary Aided Catholic comprehensive 11-16 school, under the trusteeship of the De La Salle Brothers. The school has a fully functioning theatre where the subject Drama is taught and extra-curricular Drama performances are showcased.
Within the auditorium, in order to block the light coming through the windows during the performances, J&C Joel manufactured and installed 17 black Wool Serge 565 (WS090) curtains hung from a robust manual walkalong 2 Way track.
The proscenium curtains were manufactured from midnight blue Countess (VEL012), with 50% fullness and chain weights in the base. The manual winch sets operating the lighting bars and proscenium track were upgraded and a full maintenance inspection was carried out.
To complete the dressing, six black Wool Serge 565 (WS090) legs headed to 1.5m with a drop of four metres were hung from the side swivel arms. The border bars and swivel arms were discreetly positioned, so Wool Serge 565 provided effective masking for the performances.
At the rear of the stage a seamless white Filled Cloth (FIL001) was manufactured which provided an ideal backdrop due to its light-softening weave properties, making it ideal for lighting effects to be projected onto it.
