J&C Joel manufactured an Austrian curtain for British indie rock band, Kaiser Chiefs.
Kaiser Chiefs are a British indie rock band from Leeds, West Yorkshire who formed in 2000 and have had three top ten albums in the UK albums chart. The band has won three Brit Awards, an NME award and was also shortlisted for the Mercury Prize.
J&C Joel manufactured a silver Trevira CS Silk (PT015) Austrian curtain, chosen by Lighting Designer Richard Larkum, which was used as the backdrop for one of the Kaiser Chief’s UK Tours.
The Trevira CS Silk drape measured 12m wide with a drop of 7.5m and was finished with 100% fullness, hemmed sides and base and consists of 12 panels with D rings to the rear of the drape.
An Austrian curtain is also known as a Reefer or Festoon curtain and is a striking yet delicate type of drape manufactured with vertical and horizontal fullness sewn into the horizontally pleated swags; this enables the curtain to be raised evenly.
The curtain was lit in myriad colours allowing the backdrop to be transformed into an imposing waterfall of iridescence cascading towards the stage. The mood of the backdrop can be instantly altered with lighting, making the curtain powerful and striking one moment then turning it into a calm yet breath-taking sea of colour the next.
Ian Tobin, Project Manager at Prism Lighting, said: “We were so impressed with the Austrian curtain for the Kaiser Chiefs tour that we just had to purchase a further 540m2 for our hire stock.”
