When Halifax’s Victoria Theatre played host to burlesque musical, Miss Nightingale, they called upon J&C Joel to manufacture a Reefer Curtain for the tour.
The curtain was made from Polyester Trevira, measuring six metres by nine metres with 50% fullness.
A Reefer Curtain (also known as an Austrian or festoon) has both vertical and horizontal fullness sewn into the horizontal pleated swags. When lit, it created an interesting rippling effect, this especially added emphasis to the swag detail.
A red Regal Satin Curtain (REG015) was also manufactured for the small performance stage on which the leading lady acted out her songs and dances, measuring 1.13 metres wide by 2.2 metres drop with 50% fullness and a rufflette tape heading.
The bright, luxurious fabric is a brilliant contrast against the Austrian Curtain which was provided as a backdrop for the tour. Behind the Regal Satin Curtain was a black Stage Satin Drape (SS007), measuring 1.33 metres wide by 2.4 metres drop with 50% fullness and a rufflette tape heading.
Mr Bugg, Artistic Director, said: “We have been thrilled with our reefer curtain from J&C Joel. In fact we were constantly being asked by venues if we needed anywhere to store the drapes after the tour. Everyone wanted to borrow it as it looked so good. We had fantastic service from everyone we dealt with at the company and couldn’t have asked for more.”
