Overview:

Located in the heart of Northop, Edith Bankes Memorial Hall—also known as Northop Village Hall—is a community-owned, Grade II listed building. Importantly, it combines historic character with modern, high-quality facilities. As a result, the Hall provides a welcoming community space at competitive prices and remains an ideal venue for events, meetings, and local gatherings.

Following a recommendation from Theatr Clwyd, where J&C Joel had successfully delivered previous projects, the Hall contacted J&C Joel directly. The aim was to replace its outdated drapes. Over time, these drapes had deteriorated and, therefore, presented a potential fire risk. Consequently, the Hall sought a safe and compliant solution from J&C Joel, one of the world’s leading providers of flame-retardant fabrics.

In response, J&C Joel proposed a complete upgrade. First, the team replaced the existing drapes with two new front-of-house drapes, each measuring 2.9 metres wide with a 2.9-metre drop and 50% fullness. Next, they installed a new Triple E E-Rail track system to support the drapes. In addition, a bespoke pelmet was manufactured to finish the installation. Both the drapes and pelmet were produced using Bottle Green Coliseum Velvet (VEL930/6), ensuring consistency, safety, and durability.

Finally, a small team of engineers completed the installation over two days. The work progressed efficiently and with minimal disruption. As a result, the Edith Bankes Memorial Hall was highly satisfied with the final outcome. Although J&C Joel is well known for projects in large arenas and major venues, the company also values working with community halls, churches, and schools, and continues to welcome these important local projects.
