Working alongside System Solutions South Africa, J&C Joel, installed a range of mechanical equipment and stage dressings at the Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre, South Africa.
Based in the University of KwaZulu-Natal in Durban, South Africa, the Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre serves the University’s drama department and also stages independently produced dramatic performances, musical concerts, corporate functions, and various arts festivals.
J&C Joel manufactured and installed lustrous yet durable claret Duchess (VELH004) front of house curtains lined with black Sateen Lining (LIN003) matching the theatre’s decor.
Made to a width of 7.7 metres with a 6.5m drop, hemmed sides and a fullness of 50%, the curtains were headed with golf bag hooks and were weighted with a chain pocket at their base.
A single speed Motorised Pilewind Winch unit with a safe working load (SWL) of 250kg was installed to operate the Duchess front of house curtains. Two Manual Drill Hoists were also installed along with two divert pulleys in the rear stage area in order to raise and lower rigging equipment above the stage.
