Overview:

During the renovation of the Grosvenor House Apartments in London J&C Joel supplied white Joelastic (JOS001) to be used for a striking illuminated pendant.

Located on London’s prestigious Park Lane, Grosvenor House Apartments by Jumeirah Living was originally built in the 1920s. The property underwent a complete renovation and rebuild. Throughout the project, the aim was to respect the building’s heritage while introducing a sleek, contemporary interior.

The property features a dramatic first-floor atrium area with a seven-storey high ceiling. Above the dining area, a large illuminated pendant structure forms a central focal point. Building contractor John Sisk & Sons appointed Prolyte Group’s special projects division, Litestructures, to manufacture, build, and commission this feature.

The impressive luminous pendant was based on a design developed by GIA Lighting. It compromises a series of aluminium frames assembled in a concentric arrangement. To ensure stability, braces link the outer and inner sections reinforcing the outer perimeter.

To clad the frames, J&C Joel supplied white Joelastic (JOS001), a wide poly-stretch fabric with a sheen finish. Where the bracing passes through the inner skin, the installation incorporated apertures finished with short lycra sleeves in the same colour. As a result, these sleeves mould tightly around the bracing, sealing gaps and preventing light bleed.

Furthermore:

A central cord system supports the pendant using a hoist mechanism. This design allows the structure to be lowered for maintenance purposes. Meanwhile, power feeds and suspension wires sit within a single containment system, creating a clean and integrated visual appearance.

Philips iColor Cove MX Powercore was selected as the LED solution for the project, alongside a LiteSwitch DMX control, giving time and daylight triggered environment management from a single ultra-compact wall mount panel.

Finally, the design incorporated wireless DMX to maximise simplicity and reliability. Together, these elements create a fully integrated installation that delivers a striking focal feature within this landmark development.
