Forum Cinema Hexham approached J&C Joel following a recommendation from a previous satisfied customer. The request was to modernise and refresh the venue’s drapery and acoustics by replacing the outdated fabric on the existing drapes and a series of custom-shaped acoustic panels.
To fulfil the brief, we manufactured and installed 243 meters of Mercury Gold fabric. This material was used to create two new front-of-house drapes, a pair of side legs, and eight bespoke acoustic panels. These were designed to complement the cinema’s interior and enhance both its visual appeal and acoustic performance.
For the rear projection wall, we used our Black Wool Serge, a hard-wearing fabric perfect for masking off stage areas and equipment. Making it ideal for cinemas, events and entertainment environments. This material was precisely tailored to fit around the surround-sound speakers and projection apertures, ensuring both practical functionality and a clean, professional finish.
To complete the bespoke acoustic shapes, wooden edging was crafted, carefully painted to match the Mercury Gold fabric, and installed around each panel to create a cohesive and polished look.
Despite the technical demands of the project, the entire refit was completed within the client’s one-week timeframe, delivering a refreshed and contemporary aesthetic without disrupting the cinema’s schedule.
