In a company first, J&C Joel’s engineers installed a Serapid LinkLift with a 16.6 m travel at the SkyAvenue Mall, Resorts World Genting in Malaysia.
Resorts World Genting is one of the largest resorts in the world, located 6,000 ft above sea level that boasts of seven hotels. The resort has over 10,000 rooms, an 18-hole golf course, more than 200 dining and retail outlets (at the SkyAvenue Mall), Genting Highlands Premium Outlets, entertainment, business convention facilities, an indoor theme park and will soon have the world’s first 20th Century Fox World theme park.
Working in partnership with O’Connor’s Engineering Sdn Bhd and the consultant Stage Centre Line Associates, J&C Joel installed a lift with a travel of 16.6m – a company record and also the second longest lift travel in the world!
The lift was to be used by the Mall for live performances, launches, displays and reveals; including a 20ft Christmas tree and car giveaway promotions. The project cost the Resort more than one million pounds and took J&C Joel nine months to complete with an installation team of nine people on site.
The main lift was powered by Serapid LinkLift 100s with chain guides. It had a diameter of 5.8m, a static load of 17.1 ton, a dynamic load of 4.5 ton and a variable speed of 45cm per second.
J&C Joel also installed a horizontal floor plug which could slide across to fill the floor, opening when the lift was not in use. It was built up of traverse-systems powered by VLB60s which operated the plug at a horizontal speed of 15cm per second. A plug lift was also installed and powered by Serapid LinkLift 80s with a travel of 10cm per second, a static load of 17.1ton and a dynamic load of 2.2ton.
To ensure safety, a motorised handrail, conforming with EN81, was installed which was operated by four Serapid LinkLift 30s and had a static load of 5.1 ton. Finally, J&C Joel’s engineers supplied and installed a fully automated and integrated control system.
