Overview:

Working with long-standing customer Tekstil Teknikk, J&C Joel manufactured an exceptionally large Austrian drape for a convention centre south of Oslo. The project showcased both the scale of our manufacturing capabilities and the expertise of our production team.

The finished drape measured 38.75 metres wide with an 11-metre drop. To achieve the required appearance and performance, the team manufactured the drape using more than 420 metres of J&C Joel’s flagship Wool Serge 565 fabric and used 1280 2mm D Rings. The completed drape weighed approximately 450kg, presenting significant production and handling challenges.

The team divided the drape into three sections to ensure safe manufacturing, transportation, and installation. To maintain the appearance of a single, continuous drape, they incorporated hook-and-loop fixings along the panel edges. As a result, the three sections joined seamlessly on site while retaining the elegant appearance expected of a traditional Austrian drape.

J&C Joel supplied the finished drape directly to the client, who managed the installation independently. Nevertheless, the success of the project relied on close collaboration throughout the design and manufacturing process to ensure the final solution met both aesthetic and practical requirements.

The completed installation delivers a striking visual feature within the convention centre and demonstrates the versatility of Wool Serge 565 at an impressive scale.

The client was delighted with the finished result. J&C Joel is equally proud of the project, which highlights our ability to manufacture large-scale bespoke drapery solutions without compromising on quality, craftsmanship, or appearance.
