J&C Joel was asked by Siong Brothers Engineering Works Sdn Bhdz to provide their specialist drapery services to The Platform – a creative space for creative events, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The Platform is a fully integrated Performing Arts Center used for gigs, live shows, seminars and corporate events – aiming to provide an affordable solution for users without compromising quality.
After attending a site visit, J&C Joel produced design layouts, suggested appropriate fabric and curtain finishes, that would suit the venue perfectly.
This project was the first to use black IFR Coliseum Velvet (VEL930), from J&C Joel’s ‘West End Collection’ fabric range. Coliseum Velvet (VEL930) is manufactured from a newly developed Polyester with natural IFR properties, which means that the IFR properties of the drapes will not be affected by the high humidity of Asia’s climate.
J&C Joel begun by manufacturing a house border for the theatre. This was sewn with 75% fullness to make it look lavish and pleated, whilst simultaneously increasing the drape’s acoustic properties.
Along with this, J&C Joel produced a pair of mid-stage travelers, three single masking border drapes, six single masking legs and a pair of front wings for the venue.
All the drapes were sewn with 50% fullness, a standard chain-weight (Jack Chain) in the base to add weight and ensure that they hung as straight as possible and headed with Webbing and Ties for an easy, secure attachment.
The drapes effectively masked areas of the stage ensuring the actors were not in view before entering onto the stage and the audience could not see the rigging and lighting equipment above the stage.
