J&C Joel was asked by ITV Studios Ltd to supply drapery for the talent show The Voice.

The voice is a British talent show. There are five different stages to the show: producers’ auditions, blind auditions, battle phase, knockouts, and live shows. The winner receives £100,000 and a record deal with Republic Records.

For the 2019 Final, J&C Joel manufactured a set of their bespoke Trevira CS string drapes. These were used in the background set during Deana Walmsley’s (runner up of The Voice 2019) and singer Tom Jones’ beautiful rendition of ‘I believe’ by Frankie Laine.

The drapes were manufactured from J&C Joel’s custom dyed gold (STR033) and green (STR034) FR String Drape fabric, each of the drapes measured 2.1m wide by a 3m drop. The drapes were manufactured with Velcro on the header for a durable attachment to the bar and to effectively meet the show’s requirement for a quick and easy changeover of the set during acts.

The advantage of using this type of fabric is its ability to allow the light through when it is lit. In this instance, the light peered through the drapes which softened the intensity and created a warm glow, this effectively complimented the warm, heartfelt emotions that the performance portrayed.
